COVID-19 RULES AND REGULATIONS – UPDATED 21ST OCTOBER 2021

IF YOU OR ANYONE ELSE IN YOUR FAMILY ARE SHOWING ANY SIGNS OF CORONAVIRUS OR YOU HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE THAT YOU HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH SOMEONE WHO HAS – PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE YARD!

  • RIDING HAT HIRE IS NOW AVAILABLE
    We can now hire our riding hats out but there will be an additional fee of £5.00 each for new riders on their 1st visit then £2.00 each thereafter, this is due to the additional sanitising and stock purchasing required.
  • Masks must be worn when hats are being fitted (Masks are not required when riding).
  • All riders are required to wear gloves (We sell them at £2.50).
  • We do still recommend to purchase your own riding hat, we sell them here starting from £45.00. If you purchase one from an alternative equine retailer please ensure the safety standard is PAS 015 with a British Kitemark
  • ALL RIDERS WEARING THEIR OWN RIDING HATS MUST ENSURE THEY ARE PAS 015 STANDARD WITH A BRITISH KITE MARK.
  • Beginner riders must have a parent or suitable adult from their support bubble to be able lead the pony throughout the lesson as our staff and volunteers cannot be that close for that length of time.
  • At present we are not conducting Parties, Pony Club, Stable Management or lessons for under 4 year olds, therefore we only have lessons in our arenas available.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes before your lesson is due to start and leave promptly afterwards.
  • To limit the amount of people in and around the riding school, we ask that only 1 parent / guardian attend with a child under 18 years of age. Riders over the age of 18 years please attend the yard alone.
  • All lessons are to be prebooked and paid for in advance via card or the correct cash, as we do not have the capacity for any unexpected guests.
  • We can assure you that all tack is constantly being disinfected in between lessons and staff and volunteers are wearing masks when they need to be a little closer.
  • Allocated waiting areas and spectator areas are in place, please ensure you adhere to these areas and do not wander around, this is to ensure social distancing always remains in place.
  • For spectators, all areas are outdoors but do have an overhead cover. Our indoor seating area is only available when weather is very poor, limited spaces available and masks must be worn at all times.
  • Our tuckshop is open, please ask and pay for items when paying for your following lesson.
  • Our new Coffee Machine will be coming soon, this is limited to one customer at a time within the office and masks must be worn whilst purchasing. Wipes will be available to sanitise the machine.
  • Our bathroom facilities are open however we do strongly discourage you from using them and try to go at home where possible.
  • In the event of a rider requiring first aid treatment, staff will wear the correct PPE before attending the rider.
  • Our weight limit remains at 15 stone, please do not be offended if we ask you to pop on our scales.
  • Our cancellation policy remains in place, please visit our terms and conditions page.
  • Due to Covid-19 our working hours have slightly changed, if you are unable to speak to a member of staff please leave a voice mail and a member of the team with return your call as soon as possible.

For all New Riders please print a copy of our Rider Registration Form out, complete and bring with you to your first session.

How to find the Riding School once you have arrived on the Drive


Glen Jakes Riding School is a family run business, with a friendly relaxed atmosphere to make you feel at ease. Our qualified helpful staff provide educational, informative, fun riding lessons for all. We are open all year round, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday daytime and evenings 9am - 9pm, Wednesday 9am - 3pm during School Holidays, Saturday - Sunday 9am - 7pm.

We have established an outstanding reputation since 1990. The key to our success is that we provide a complete range of activities to suit all levels and ages of riding abilities from complete beginners to advanced level riders from tiny tots to mature adults. Our flexible timetable enables you to ride at a time that suits you.

We provide a high standard of tuition on our well mannered horses and ponies, because your safety is paramount. Hat hire is available at no extra cost (if required). No other riding equipment needs to be purchased for you to ride with us.

Due to our recent review of our horses and ponies workloads and capabilities our weight limit is restricted to 15 stone or 95kg.

These are available to purchase from as little as £1.50, and can be redeemed to suit you, since they have no expiry date. Simply contact us to organise your chosen activity. Our flexible timetable enables us to offer a variety of days and times to suit you.

At Glen Jakes we realise that fun is an essential part of learning. We are keen to see progress in our riders, therefore Glen Jakes Riding School certificates are awarded for each level of riding / stable management achieved. Set your goal and leave the rest to us.
